Pathetic! The mental health unit would not give me any straight answers about a patient that is my first cousin, I, his next of kin & a former Mental health worker here in Cairns. The nurses know nothing about the patient, they treat all of them the same & believe the diagnosis of their own thoughts to be that of truth. The nurses & doctors don't take me seriously & they speak down to me. They are disrespectful, lack empathy & compassion and seem to think that they know all because they are a "registered nurse". A nurse questioned me because I asked for names & surnames. Get over your little power trips because graduating from mental health school does not make you an expert to every case that gets presented to you!! It's culturally wrong! Dr Kieren Le Plastrier, Dr Daniel Pasternak, Nurse's Jithin, Bibin, Trent, Duncan, Lilly & Team Leaders Matthew & Geo... You's are a sad case of "medical experts" & I hope for your sake that you's take me seriously & if my cousin gets worse because of your lack of duties, I will speak to the Heads Of Department! BTW, Call the Cairns MHU & ask them about me, they will tell you how awesome I did my job!!

Great emergency department. Very helpful staff who communicate effectively and keep patients up to date. Since no one ever plans to be at emergecy ..... it is good to know that staff are there to help.
Travelling through Mackay and just spent 12 hours in ED with severe chest pain. The doctors and nurses were fantastic, caring and thoughtful. Doctors checked every possible scenario before discharging, their thoroughness was amazing!
